My 'hood

Okay, so you all know about the golddiggin' bad mama and the Russian hooker, but I must share with you some snippets about my other neighbors...

Take Trick Daddy, for example. He lives three doors down and we have no idea if he owns the house, or is just a tenant. So far, we've seen him (he is a very large black man), an attractive white woman, a large Latina woman, several teenagers, and a myriad of other people on the premesis who may or may not live there. The other day, a cop was at their door, which made us wonder if maybe some illegal activity is going on there. Then again, a cop was at our door a few months ago too, but it was because of my brother hitting our neighbor's car.

Speaking of which, the people whose car he hit?!? Well, let's just say that they may have stepped right off the set of Hee-Haw. They are from Tennessee and have 7 cars in their driveway and in front of their house at all times (hence why my brother ended up hitting one - they were just asking for it). One of these vehicles is a beat-up old van that advertises a janitorial service. Classy.

And let's not even speak of the people who thought it would be completely acceptable to paint the door on their yellow house purple.

Apparently, our homeowner's association is strict on what kind of pool or fence you can have, but they don't care if the neighborhood looks like a ghetto. And mind you, this is a brand-new community and the houses aren't cheap (though they keep dropping the prices, which is no surprise...would you want to live here?!?)

On a positive note, my pediatrician lives on my street and gave us her cell phone number. How cool is that?!?

One less neighbor on the block

She and her fiance broke up and she is moving out this week.

Now, if only I could get rid of the lady next door (a mail-order bride from Russia who is widowed) - she has a 6-year old daughter, yet finds it completely acceptable to have a different man spend the night at her house every night of the week. Not only that, but her yard looks like ass.

It's like living in an upscale ghetto!

One less babysitter on the block

So, I recently started walking in the evenings with one of my neighbors. She's 27, has a 5-month old son, and met her fiance on the Internet about two months ago. Nice girl...very cute and someone I think I might have been BFFs with when I was in my early to mid twenties.

Thing is, the more I walk with her, the more I've discovered that she's not a very good mom. Her son was an "accident" with a one-night stand (I learned this in the first twenty minutes of knowing her), which I think maybe explains why she's not so into this whole mommy thing.

Don't get me wrong...I don't think she beats the poor child, but he's only 5 months old and she always acts annoyed with him. The other day, he was sick (fever, diarhea, throwing up), and she a) didn't seem concerned and b) told me that when he was screaming, she ignored him because she didn't want him to think he could get her to come on demand.

I was appalled.

Not only that, but one day when we were walking, J. dropped his binky...would you believe that she picked it up, wiped it off on her pants and popped it back in his mouth?!?

Anyhow, the thing is, I feel like I need to mentor her on this mommy thing. I'm hoping that in time, she will see that when baby is sick that it IS a big deal, and when baby is screaming, it usually means that he needs you for something, which to him is pretty important.

In the meantime, let's just say that there will be no unsupervised play dates at her house!

Making friends with the neighbors

On Saturday evening, we had dinner at my house to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday. Afterwards, my younger brother and sister decided to go out clubbing...then when they were done my brother planned to come back to my house to stay over.

At 4:00 in the morning, my sister comes running up the stairs and into our bedroom. She was so upset that we couldn't understand a word that she was saying. It almost gave me heart failure...I thought someone had died (and I was in a dead sleep, so my first reaction was that something had happened to J., which still upsets me when I think about it).

Anyhow, my brother shouldn't have been driving, but was, and hit two parked cars in my neighborhood (actually, he hit one, but it pushed the car he hit into the car in front of it) with his brand-new Corvette.

The one night that J. slept through the night, and we end up losing a few hours of sleep thanks to my brother.

The next morning, our neighbors figured out that my brother was staying with us and knocked on our door. They had called the police. Luckily for my brother (but not for my neighbors), the cop who came to the scene was nice and only gave him tickets for careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Needless to say, it was not how we wanted to meet our neighbors for the first time. Thankfully, they don't live on our street, though we do have to pass them in order to get home.
