Costa Rican Honeymoon, Day Three

We woke up, showered, and had another amazing breakfast at Hotel Grano de Oro - a huge pineapple full of fresh fruit, the freshest pineapple juice and coffee ever and eggs benedict - yum! We said adios to our buddy Guillermo (William en Espanol), the best waiter in the world!

The rental company sent someone to pick us up and we were on our way! The sun was even shining if you can believe that!

When we got the rental car and were navigating on our own, we managed to get lost in a scary little city where bars were on every house, store, and building. After 45 minutes, we were back on track. The road conditions were so very poor - cars and semis just jump in your lane on very sharp curves that overlook cliffs - not fun! It took us many hours to make it just 140 km.

The countryside was so beautiful though. We got hungry and saw a sign to eat at a pizzeria and decided to stop. This place, El Medino was amazing - lush landscape, beautiful teak furniture, and huge windows. There was a wood fire pizza grill and the owner was so nice. We ate the best pizza and spaghetti we've probably ever had. Who would have thought?!?

At 3:15, we finally made it to the Tabacon Lodge - what a paradise this place turned out to be! Our room has a great view of the Volcano Arenal and at night, you can see the lava pouring down it - wow!

We went to the springs and it is the most amazing place I've ever been! Natural hot springs are everywhere in a resort-like atmosphere. You can sit at the bar while lounging in the pool at the same time - amazing!

Everyone is very friendly and mostly American. We met a really cool couple - Brian and Suzie from Raleigh, NC. We had drinks with them in the pool and then lounged in the hot springs and chatted. At 8, the four of us went to dinner at a beautiful little restaurant nearby that offered an amazing view of the volcano at night. It was spewing molten hot rocks and it just looked SO COOL, like red/orange shooting stars falling from the sky. The dinner, view, and conversation were wonderful but we were all tired so we retired after eating.

Tomorrow morning is pampering time - I can't wait!

We are in PARADISE!
