Adventures in Hysteroscopy

I went on Thursday for my hysteroscopy.

First, I had to go to the RE's office for my pre-op and then down to the hospital to check in. After I had some bloodwork done, I went up to get prepped for surgery.

As was the case when I had my c-section and my epidural didn't work, something went wrong with my IV tube and about 3 staffers spent time trying to get it to work properly, digging the IV needle into my hand while doing so. Not so fun. But on the bright side, everyone was extremely nice and did what they could to make me feel comfortable.

After surgery, it took me FOREVER to completely come out of the anesthesia - I was out of it for awhile. In fact, I ended up spending over 4 hours in the recovery room, while other people around me maybe spent an hour. I felt nauseous and couldn't pee. In fact, they wouldn't let me leave the hospital until I could pee and I came "thisclose" to having to go home with a catheter. I guess that's as good a motivation as any!

So the bottom line with the surgery...everything looked good. No polyps or fibroids, which is definitely good news. He did put a catheter in my cervix to keep it dialated so that it will be easier to transfer the embryos when the time comes. I go on Monday to get it taken out.

It's been almost 48 hours and I'm still popping Tylenol 3 like mad - I'm experiencing cramps, bloating, and general discomfort. Today, it feels like I'm having uterine contractions. I feel like I'm 6 months pregnant again and having Braxton-Hicks!

The hardest part so far as been trying to take it easy. I can't pick up J. and he doesn't understand it. He tries climbing on me and I have to tell him no, which sucks. But, I keep telling myself that this is all worth it. I know it will be.
