Wanna buy a house?!?

We met with a realtor yesterday and went ahead and put our house on the market. My husband doesn't have a job yet, but he's been interviewing for positions all over the state, so there is a good chance we'll be leaving the area. We wanted to get a jump start, just in case...especially since houses aren't flying off the market like they were a year ago.

Thing is, I absolutely love this house. It's got everything we could possibly need or want, with the exception of an additional bedroom. We're thinking about building next time around so that we can get exactly what we want...but what a freaking nightmare that can be (though I wouldn't do it like you did, C...we would go with a builder to handle subcontracting everything).

Hopefully my husband will have a job by the end of the month. The unknown is always exciting at first for me, but quickly becomes a state of limbo if it lasts too long.

Don't worry about the housing market...it just takes one person who is being transferred (and HAS to buy something quickly) to sell it. But what about the opposite? What would you do if you did sell it too quick???

Oh, no. we had a builder. a reputable (which is stupid to even say because there is no one reputable in that whole industry), experienced one. Then he up and left (the town? the country? nobody knows), with all of his homes in various stages of being complete. I then took it on (the slab and framing had been done, trusses were next), because how hard could it be...I only had a 16 month old and a 3.5 yr old. Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Building is difficult with a builder, it is life changing when you do it yourself. I did it though (and in only 3.5 months...in the busy summer season).

you gave me a good idea for a blog entry! : )

I hope you're able to sell your house! Ben's co-worker, José is selling his house in Boyton Beach right now and he's getting nervous because he's really close to moving into his new one. So far, the only other details I have is that it's a 2400 sq ft house. If you're interested, I'll get more details if you like. (You wouldn't be too far from your family up north! {grin})

Love ya!

If we sell too quickly, we'll be sure to put a contingency in the contract indicating that we remain in the house until Stephen finds a job. At this point, I think we will only entertain people who are willing to pay full price. We'll negotiate on things like the washer/dryer (which we want to get rid of anyhow...our Maytag sucks!) and closing costs, but only if we have to. Of course, if he gets an offer and we have to move, we'll be a little more flexible.

Man, you had a bad experience, C.! I didn't even realize a builder could leave people high and dry like that. That's why we'll only build with a company that will hold the mortgage until closing. We've seen too many people get screwed over when they take out a construction loan. Ugh!

Michele - don't think Boynton is an option at this point...sorry! I'll let you know if that changes. :)
