Yay!

J.'s umbilical cord nub came off today - woo hoo! God, I hated looking at that thing.

In other news, he's been pretty fussy lately. Lots of gas, though I don't know where it's coming from. Last night, it took us 3 hours to get him to sleep. Two more nights of that in a week and he could be classified as colicky. I don't even want to consider that!

He's been an angel today though, so maybe it was just a one-night thing. I hope so, at least!

I'm sure you already know this, but my bff who has 4 children swears by Mylicon (sp?) drops. x

Yes, I second the mylicon. Also, i know this is MUCH easier said than done, but have you given any thought to maybe easing off dairy (in your diet)? Some babies are sensitive to milk/dairy in their mom's diet (when breastfed). Major pain in the ass, I know. A. was sensitive to it, but I only had to give up milk...cheese, yogurt were all ok.

i know you know about spicy food, etc. As he gets older, you'll be able to add food back into your diet (more than likely, at least), it's just now, when he's so new and his little system is just starting out.

Oh, have you been giving him any formula? if so, that can do it too...they get much more air from a bottle.

I'll say a "Please God, let Jake have no colic" prayer for you. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I think K. still has it. :)

I certainly pray that he doesn't have colic, but I think the more pressing matter is the umbilical cord nub. I'll never give you parenting advice other than saying please don't freeze or save that thing. And you'd better not have eaten your placenta either.

Hey Becky - I've tried to come visit your blog but I can't see the entries. I'm using Mozilla, has anyone else ever had problems?

i still have A's. it's taped to a little piece of paper. Every now and then it will surface and someone will go, "What's this?" Yeah, it immediately gets thrown on the floor after that.

i can't seem to toss it though.

Actually, Cory & Becky - I ate the umbilical cord stump and am saving the placenta. It's in a box under Jake's crib...we plan to give it to his future bride someday. Ha ha ha. Ewwww.

Christine - we figured out that it's milk. He's allergic (I was too when I was a baby). Poor little monkey...and poor mommy. I love drinking the stuff. Oh well. Luckily, I can't eat spicy food anyhow.

Kasey - we've been using the Mylicon drops, but what my pediatrician told me was that it's good for upper GI gas, but not for intestinal gas. The key is going to be for me to cut milk out of my diet.

I feel for you. cutting milk isn't easy.

Here's a tip...get Marilu Henner's total health makeover. I read it when i was trying to lose the baby weight from A. She's goes into all the health reasons why you don't want to drink milk. I stopped drinking it immediately after (except very rarely w/cereal).
