So I went to the doctor today -- she said that I am still only about 1 cm dilated and am now about 80% effaced. She also said that J. is going to probably weigh about 8 pounds, 2 ounces - yikes!!!
She stripped my membranes to try and move things along and said that if I don't have the baby this weekend, to come back on Monday for a non-stress test. They'll check me again and once I am at least 2 cm dilated, they'll schedule me for an induction.
I'm starting to think that maybe I'm meant to have this baby on June 13th, the day my grandmother died exactly 10 years ago. Right before I got pregnant, I said a little prayer to her, asking that she help me conceive. As much as I want this baby out RIGHT NOW, it would be cool if I had him on Tuesday...number 1) it would give us something happy to celebrate on that day, and number 2) it would honor the memory of her.
Anything is possible.

Holy m.f. (and I don't mean Mary Frances)!!!! I've heard that hurts like hell! How bad was it?? I'm sure labor won't be so bad now that you've gone through that. I'm psyched to hear the 80% part! That's wonderful news! Girl, when you do kick into labor, you're going to be so much further ahead than a lot of first time moms.
You're in a win-win situation! If the exam makes him come tonight (or tomorrow)...like my last exam made E. come...then GREAT! But if he ends up waiting until Tuesday...that's almost better (in the long run)! Ooooooooooh, I am so excited for you guys!!! Sleep well tonight, it will be the last of the full night's sleep you get!!! : )
wow! i'm so happy for you. i am sure you're pretty excited and anxious- more so than you have been the past week or so, anyway since you're so close! Just so you know how off they are about weight guessing- my cousin was supposed to have a four pound baby according to their calculations (probably trying to scare her since she smoked the whole pregnancy) and she had a 10 pound monster. so it could go either way. You could have a smaller baby. (I hope you don't get the 10 pounder, I think my cousin deserved hers for smoking.)
June 13th would be a lovely day for him to be born... my favorite cousin's birthday is that day. She's a second grade teacher and an all around great person.
Also, this year, June 13th marks the 20th Anniversary of when QVC went on-air for the first time! And to celebrate, it's ALL DAY DIAMONIQUE! Yeah, baby!
Yeah. I have my priorities straight. Heh. Heh.

Christine - the membrane stripping wasn't so bad. It was about as painful as a regular bikini wax, so I KNOW you could handle it! More than anything, it was just uncomfortable.
Becky - If he turns out to be 10 pounds, I may have to start smoking!!! Just kidding. I'd never do that, pregnant or not! But really, that's crazy that they were so off! We asked the nurse midwife how accurate she usually was and she said she's almost always right on. Stephen was 8lbs, 2oz when born so it seems about right. Hopefully no bigger than that though!!!
Michele - The fact that you know the 20th anniversary of QVC scares me...maybe even more than the idea of pushing out a 10 pound baby! ;) Love you too.
