Insert primal scream here

Not because anything is wrong, but because I just got back from the doctor and found out that I am no more dilated than I was last week. It even looks like for some strange reason, J. is no longer in prime birthing position (I was wondering why my acid reflux had suddenly returned). The only good news is that I am now 70% effaced, which means that my water could still break and cause the ball to start rolling again, whether the doctors like it or not.

I asked about induction and she said that they don't like to induce first-time moms unless their cervix is more dilated than mine is. So, unless this little guy decides to come out on his own, I have another doctor's appointment next Friday. I can assure you that at that appointment, I will be crying and begging for an induction.

In the meantime, I will be trying various methods for starting labor. I've got out the yoga ball and will be spending ample time bouncing on it. Much to my husband's delight (or horror as it may be), he is getting lucky this week...a lot. I'm also taking evening primrose oil. Got any other tips or tricks? Please share!

On a positive note, I did have a nice day after my appointment. Went and had a manicure, hair cut, and an 80-minute massage. Now I'm still frustrated, but I look better and am more relaxed!

Glad you had some "ME" time and pampered yourself.

Now I'm NOT suggesting these tricks, but I have first hand knowledge from some friends of mine who just couldn't wait anymore.
Herbal remedies include Blue Cohosh (cause contractions) and Castrol oil (cause vomiting which can cause contractions).
Another friend used her breast pump to "stimulate" the process and start contractions.

I was induced before my cervix was "ripe" enough with both kids due to various complications. It makes labor more difficult, longer, and more painful. I don't recommend it at all. Remember the AAHHH technique when the time comes it helped me through it!!

Yes, I too was induced when I wasn't even in labor because I was over 2 weeks late with Gracie. It wasn't fun. :-)

So glad you had the chance to pamper yourself! That's the best thing to do when you're anxious and waiting!

Ok, straight from my doula...she told me EPO (i took it twice a day), breast pump, WALK, WALK, WALK...morning and night (too hot during the day)...helps baby wiggle down into position, check that spinning babies website for help getting him into position (things like getting on hands and knees and sort of curling your spine into a "C"), more WALKING, keep on doing the yoga ball, lots of pineapple (only fresh, canned doesn't work), WALK. Walk till you have freaking shin splints! The dr. checking you can really help kick things off too!

Effacing is the big thing. You want to be as effaced as possible when your labor kicks off. Dialating...that can happen quickly once labor begins, but the fact you are effacing is WONDERFUL! I was told the same thing as you when i went for my 37 week appt. w/A. and I remember being so down, but my sister explained the effacement part was just perfect! Sure enough, I never did dialate until my labor actually started.

Sorry this is so long!!!! I just have so many things to tell you!!!

The main thing to keep in mind though, is getting the baby into the right position (spinning babies site...you can even email them for help, I think), then once he's there, helping him to move down (walking, yoga ball). once he's in place and moving down, your body will know to kick this labor into high gear!!!
