It's the MOST wonderful TIME of the year...

I live in an area that has a snowbird population that is probably second only to Naples.

What is a snowbird, you ask?!?

A snowbird is someone who flies south for the winter...or, unfortunately for the other motorists in Florida, drives.

They come down in droves from Michigan, Ohio, Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Minnesota...basically, anywhere that's cold in the eastern half of the country. They are old, cannot drive for the life of them, take up the entire aisle in Publix, steal the good parking spaces, cause extreme congestion and traffic problems on the roadways (if they have a car), drive around in little golf carts that they decorate for each upcoming holiday (if they do not have a car), and live in little mobile homes on or near the water. They migrate down in November and stay until sometime after Easter.

Today, I was at the post office and much to my sheer delight, discovered that about half of the people in line were there to drop off their little cards to forward their mail back up north.

Screw Christmas and Halloween...THIS, my friends, is my favorite time of year!!!

PS: If one or both of your grandparents are snowbirds, I'm not talking about them. ;)

LMFAO. I love when they got home. We just moved here from Massachusetts and trust me, you can have all the snowbirds. The lack of clothing amongst the mail snow birds is, well... ALARMING!

I can't spell today. Obviously.

"I love when they *GO* home."

funny. i hate the compulsion that older people have to get bigger cars as they get older. there needs to be a law that they can only drive cars no bigger than a honda civic.

O MI GAWD... i FEEL your pain. I'm soooooo with ya sista! The campground here is stock full of 'em and worse, 70% of them are from Quebec. I can't wait to feel like I can breathe again when this place empties out!

Arizona gets inundated with them as well. My poor in-laws have to deal with them all winter long. What I don't get is the golf cart thing. Kurt's relatives had both a Cadillac and a golf cart -- and they used the golf cart like a car!! On the roads!! Wackos.

yeah- though i think smaller vehicles are nice for old people, but i think a golf cart is called a CART for a reason.

I noticed quite a few RV's traveling in a pack on the interstate today. I thought it was funny after reading your post. I never would have paid attention to that, except they were from Minnesota and they were going so FREAKING SLOW.

Speaking of lack of clothing, apparently in Quebec, the SPEEDO is still fashionable at age 60.

Ewww!!!

Kate - you are so cute! Don't worry - we knew what you meant! ;)

Becky - PLEASE tell me the RV's were heading North!!!! The funny thing I've noticed here with the golf carts, is that right before a major (or minor) holiday, some of them will band together, festively decorate their golf carts, and parade on the sidewalk alongside the highway. The first time I saw this was right before St. Patrick's day and I thought I was going to pee my pants from laughing so hard. In a way, it's endearing...but I swear - AS GOD AS MY WITNESS that will NEVER BE ME!

Karyl - I wish the ones who came to Florida would hit Arizona instead...stick them out in the desert, where they can be tan and drive as slow as they want without bothering anyone.

Michele - Speedo...ick.

Hubby and I have a friend who's parents have completely reworked their golf cart...as in THOUSANDS of dollars to make it look nice. Our friend calls it, "pimp my golf cart"!!! Ha-ha-ha-ha! His parents aren't even that old...they use it at a lake house they have.
