It will grow back, right?!?

Okay, so I read in the Girlfriend's Guide To Pregnancy that you should never follow through with some crazy urge to get your hair cut short when you are pregnant. I tried to listen, but my stylist had other plans.

On Friday, I went to my stylist for a cut. I even brought a picture with me of this adorable picture of Reese Witherspoon - she had side-swept bangs with long layers that flipped at the end. From the picture, I'd gather that her hair was about 2 inches below her shoulders and that all of the layers fell to at least her shoulders.

Turns out that my stylist isn't feeling well. She had bad shrimp the night before, which I should have taken as a sign that she might not have all of her faculties about her. She had almost even cancelled on me, but decided to cut my hair anyhow. God was telling me to run away as fast as I could, but I somehow missed the message.

So, I show her the picture of Reese and she says, "Are you sure you want to go that short?" We must not have been looking at the same picture because from what I saw, I didn't think it was that short at all. Sure, it would mean she'd be cutting off a good 4 inches, but it just didn't seem that drastic to me. I explained that yes, I was okay with going that short.

The first cut she made nearly took my breath away...she was at least an inch above my shoulder. I seriously almost shit myself. Did the bad shrimp make her go blind?!? At that point, there was nothing I could do because the damage was done. Either I ended up with some crazy lopsided "look mom, I cut my own hair!" cut or let her do her thing and pray that it wasn't as bad as I had a feeling it would be.

At that point, she started talking and wouldn't stop. At one point, she was talking about how she's known pregnant women who insisted on getting their hair cut short and then ended up crying in the chair. Thing is, I DIDN'T insist on getting my hair cut short...I showed her a picture of a very cute medium length cut, and she was the one who made it short. But that's neither here nor there at this point because the damage had already been done.

I'm proud of myself because I didn't cry. Nowadays, the time I save washing and blow drying my hair, I make up for playing with it to get it to style in a way that doesn't make my face look as fat as it is right now, in all of my pregnant glory. We went to a wedding this weekend and as you can see from the pic, it's not THAT bad...my husband swears that he loves it, even. It's just that this cut + my rotund face = an unhappy pregnant camper.

I'll be much happier in a few months when it grows out. Oh, and when I find a new stylist.

Oh, Sweetie... ((((Alicia))))

You have my utmost sympathies! Trust me, I know exactly how you feel. And, you musta had the same stylist I had last month... I asked for an inch; she took 2.5 inches(granted, not as drastic as your cut but still). And, one side is definitely shorter by nearly 1/2" on the one side in the back. Grr!

Why do stylists do what THEY want and not what WE want? It's like they go through a drought of hair cutting and then suddenly decide to lop off tons o' hair on one or two clients!

Anyway, it does look cute despite it not being what you wanted. And with those prenatals, it should grow back fast. A lot of women's hair grows fast during pregnancy and nursing.

Love ya!
xoxo

Alicia,

OK, check it out, I don't know how much water this will hold, but from a "guy's" opinion, I was scrolling down to see the disaster, and didn't realize that the picture of you and Steven was the one you were referring too! So, good news, you're still glowing! :)

When I realized that the picture you were referring to was at the beginning of your blog I realized that yes, I'm sure it's shorter than you wanted, and for that my heart goes out to you. Michele has had some crazy cuts that has left her steaming!

So, if my opinion means anything, you still look beautiful! By the way, I guess it's about time that I told you and Steven congratulations!!!! Michele and I are soooo happy for you two!...(three) :)

Hope your having a good day! Oh, and I'm convinced that taking a picture in to your stylist cut is as bad as sending the food back to the chief, you never know what surprise you will get!!!

I realize it's not what you wanted in a cut, but it does look cute in that photo! I never did cut my hair when I was pregnant, although I'm not one to really worry about how it looks anyhow. My hair has really always done its own thing! :o)

You look amazing! And I love the cut.
But, I do know how you feel-I think we've all has that awful scenario with a hairdresser at some point.

It's true about pregnant women or new moms wanting short hair.
I went for the Rosemary's Baby pixie cut after the birth of my daughter because she wouldn't stop pulling my hair! It was so easy to take care of I didn't care how I looked.

M - your husband is officially tied with mine for Most Wonderful Husband in the World...please tell him THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for his super kind words. Hearing it from a guy DOES make me feel MUCH better. :)

K & K - Thanks to you guys too! I'm gonna get all mushy and say how much I love you all. How about that for some pregnancy hormones?!? ;)

That's not even CLOSE to my worst hair experience ever...I'll be saving that one for an Afterschool Special soon...it will make you cringe.

you are such a cutie pie pregnant mama! honestly, this is the fastest your hair will ever grow, so i'm sure it will be longer than you think in a matter of weeks.

trust me, after the baby comes and you can't even get your act together enough to make it to the salon, you'll be thanking God for that cut...if it wasn't that short now, it might be touching your ass by the time you make it out again! not trying to scare you or anything. i'm just saying...

: )

I agree with Ben, I had no idea when I first saw the picture. I think it always seems worse than it actually is. It does look cute!

Don't be so hard on yourself. But don't go back to that stylist either. I had to break up with one based soley on him telling me that the book Flowers in the Attic was based on him and his siblings. Whatever. Hair is too important to entrust to a crazy person, or to a sick one for that matter.
