I had a laparoscopy performed on Tuesday of this week by my Ob/Gyn. I was really anxious to have this done...it's scary to finally have an idea as to why we are having such a hard time conceiving. Honestly, that bothered me more than being cut open!
Well, after the surgery, the doctor talked to Stephen and explained his findings. Basically, I had a slight case of endometriosis, which they removed. He said that this could definitely be the reason for my excruciatingly painful periods...and could also be the reason for my infertility. Even the tiniest bit can affect fertility, apparently. He also said that my tubes are clear and my ovaries look great.
Overall, the procedure was a success and I am feeling much better about my fertility in the future. We cannot "try" again for 3 weeks, however once we do, the Ob/Gyn says that pregnancy could come quickly because he opened up my tubes.
I don't want to get my hopes up entirely, but it's nice to have answers. When I was 21, my doctor told me that I had scar tissue on my tubes...I've believed for the past 10 years that I had this, but I never did. What a quack!!!
The surgery was not without its hitches though. I had complications after we got home...sadly, I couldn't pee! The surgery had caused my urethra to spaz out. My husband had to drive me back to the doctor and I had to get catheterized...so much fun! My discomfort was apparent though when 20 ounces of fluid came out. The horror!
I actually went back to the doctor again yesterday because the pain is still pretty bad. They blow carbon dioxide into your abdomen and the after-effects can be brutal. I've had severe shoulder and joint pain for the last 4 days and I can feel the bubbles still rolling around in my belly. I will never again believe a doctor when they say a procedure is routine and has minimal complications...even the most minimal complications suck!!!
But at least I know I should be able to get pregnant! It was worth it, if just to know that. :D
