I guess I shouldn't question another mother's mothering. Yesterday, my husband was at the "house that we haven't sold yet" doing lawn maintenance and painting, so I had J. for the day at home.
First, I took him out to run errands and forgot to bring his binky. Big mistake. After about 30 minutes, he realized it was missing, so we came home.
Then, I was doing laundry and had J. sitting next to me while I pulled stuff out of the dryer. He tried standing up by my legs and slid, hitting his little noggin on the floor.
Later, he was cruising around his bedroom and before I could catch him, he hit his head on the night stand, just centimeters from his eye. Right before my eyes, it swelled up and turned bright purple.
Hysterical, I called my husband to get the cell phone number of our pediatrician (because a good mother would have had the number programmed into every phone in the house already). Luckily, the pediatrician is super nice and also happens to live on my street (hence why we were lucky enough to get her cell phone and home numbers). Anyhow, she told me to keep close watch on J., and call her back if his pupils wouldn't dialate or if he started vomiting.
Today, he has a pretty good shiner, but is otherwise fine. I think this served as a good reminder that nobody is perfect, and even the seemingly best moms can make mistakes.
