My recovery

Well, my postpartum recovery is going good, for the most part. An update on how I'm faring...

When I went last week for my post-op visit, my doctor pointed out that I'm allergic to surgical tape though...I had the stuff all over me (which could be why I spiked a fever while in labor) and am still trying to get the residual glue off of me. On my back, where they taped areas when putting in the epidural, my skin is inflamed and itchy. Who knew?!?

I'm still in pain from the c-section, but am getting better every day. The staples inside haven't dissoved yet so it does hurt to get in and out of bed, but the outer incision is healing pretty well. I'll be happy when it's a distant memory (until I have the next one).

The good news is that I've already lost 22 pounds. Unfortunately, I still have quite a ways to go, but the breastfeeding is helping tremendously. I'm losing weight at a rate of 1-2 pounds a day, though I'm sure that will taper off. As Christine has mentioned before, the last 10 pounds will want to stick with me for as long as I am breastfeeding. Oh joy!

I can finally bend over, though not to my toes just yet. Another plus is that the swelling is finally gone and I have my feet, ankles, and calves back. No more cankles for me - woo hoo! My stomach still looks like a weird blob, but every morning when I wake up, I notice that it's a little flatter...flabby, but flatter. Hey, what people can't see when I'm wearing clothes is alright by me!

Emotionally, I'm doing good. Still in a haze over everything, though I think that will continue for some time to come. Good thing I still have 9 weeks left of maternity leave because there is no way I could focus on work right now.

J. is sleeping. I think I'll go take a nap now.

Girl, knowing you, you'll probably be one of the lucky people who are able to shed even the last 10 lbs while breastfeeding! I'll have to hate you then.

Isn't it wonderful to have everything back...or at least sort of back? I have never been so happy to put on a pair of my fat jeans as I was after I came home from having E.

Keep up the good work! You are making this seem so easy! Now go to sleep!!!

Wow, you're doing awesomely!! After I had Gracie, I was battling post-partum something awful, but the weird thing is, I didn't even realize it. It was evident to people around me, but I myself was clueless. I'm also stoked to hear breastfeeding is really working out for you!! I still had no milk by the time Gracie was 2 weeks old, even though I was nursing on demand, and she'd lost too much weight. Also Kurt had gone to San Diego with the ship when she was 10 days old, so that might have had something to do with it. ;o)

Take good care of yourself!! Keep healing, and keep napping!!! It does a body good! ;o)

Have I mentioned that Jake is absolutely ADORABLE?!?!

C - considering how skinny YOU were at the last class reunion, I don't wanna hear it! Sure, you were stressed beyond belief, but hot damn! I don't expect to look model skinny by the reunion, but wouldn't mind not looking like I just had a baby. That's all I ask.

K - I honestly don't know how you do it. You will forever have my respect and admiration for raising Gracie with Kurt gone so much. I think anyone would get depressed under the circumstances - you did great though. :)

B - Yeah, he was napping...that's the only time you'll see me posting these days! ;)
